Houtkapperspoort is the actual name of the area from the Cape Town settlement times, it was from this area that woodcutters (Houtkapper in Dutch) felled and transported trees to the Table Bay harbor for use in the Cape Settlement. The resort is laid out so that you feel that you are not surrounded by people, and the Sand Stone clad cottages surrounded by hedging and indigenous shrubbery is reminiscent of a small county dweller community.
